"who's gonna walk you side by side
& tell you everything is alright?
who's gonna look you straight in the eye
& hold your bad luck hand?"

Today was my favorite day of the year so far.

One of those beautiful early Autumn days where there's warm sun, but a chilled breeze blowing the multicolored leaves this way & that way & whorling them around the gutters & up onto curbs & all you want to do is drive around with windows down & gape at it all & walk down the street in clunky boots & crunch about in the leaf piles because it's Lovely (with a capital "L" no less) & you feel intrinsically cheesy because you realize without a doubt that you are happy & lucky to be alive to experience such a day.

mmmmm, today.

The ol' 33 birthday was last Tuesday & to celebrate I took the day off of both jobs & went to have my hair done with my girl Fran. It took a few hours with all the bleaching & coloring & chopping, but the end result was exactly what I had asked for & I am now in love with my hair again.

Yes in love I say & it isn't just that I work in the business & am constantly surrounded in the joys of hairdoism ... it's that whacking off your hair is damned cathartic & makes you feel like a new you. Not to mention that hair is a renewable resource & there's no reason not to have a blast with it.

Egads I look tired. Egads, I am.

After the afternoon of new-do-age I met up with the family at my favorite Thai restaurant & filled my belly with green papaya salad & Panang Curry w/Tofu (oh, the gods they blessed me with this concoction which I could & would happily eat every single day without ever tiring of its warmth & creamy spiciness ... my level of spicy is only a two, though it will soon graduate to a three & then it's "watch out world, Poppy has raised her level of spicy").

For dessert they brought me coconut milk ice-cream with fried bananas & a light caramel sauce that had sesame seeds in it.

O' the holy rays of heaven did shineth down upon it.

A choir of angels may have sang as well.

I was too ensconced within its creaminess to notice.

The neices were sharing in the bliss of it with me.

I got a great big, "oh Aunt Poppy, THANK YOU" from Serenity that cracked me up. She's a hoot.

On Thursday we had a large Birthdaoke bash at The Pub & imbibed just enough of the Guinness to give me the goofy smile & brought down the house with my "Landslide" & "Hanky Panky". Suki & I rocked (butt-rocked even) a killer duet of Bon Jovi's "Blaze Of Glory" & yes much merry was made.

Now I'm waiting for a phone interview with the DM of W@ldenbooks where it's very likely I will become Ass. Manager by the end of this month / beginning of next.

Me, working in a bookstore.

I hate to express how happy it would make me for fear I might jinx it.

Me ... bookstore ... GadZOOKS!

Bed.
