"the mouth that knows the secret you
...always you...
a smile to hide the fear away"

I saw The Cure live again last night. I saw them @ Coachella in 2004 as well, & it was a GOOD show ... but this?.. THIS was something different.

I am still reeling with amazement & awe a day later. They played for nearly three hours ... a 25 song set ... & then, THEN we got TWO encores during which they played 9 more songs.

The kicker is that (NO exaggeration whatsoever here either) EVERY single song sounded BETTER than anything I've ever heard from them before, live or studio-wise. Perfect in every way. They just kept playing & Robert was in such an amazing place. He was smiling & interacting with the audience & walking around the stage & full of passion & a fucking GOD on his guitar. I really think that being onstage with people he's been playing with for twenty years REALLY made a huge difference. They were all ON & I can only describe it as Bloody Fucking Brilliant!

It was just INCREDIBLE.

The sound was so well done that you could hear every single word that was sung. Sometimes at concerts everything is muffly & you aren't sure if you understand the words because you can hear them or because you know them by heart, but the sound last night was fucking unrivaled.

This is the very best I've ever seen & I have in my 33 years seen A LOT of concerts. Way more than my fair share.

The night before last in fact I saw The Shins again & that was a great show, but PALES in comparison to what I witnessed last night.

At Coachella, Robert seemed more than a little bit uncomfortable. Forty pounds heavier than he was last night & sweating profusely in the 110 degree evening heat of the California desert did nothing for his performance I'm sure ... but still, I was impressed with that show as well. I've been racking my brain all day trying to think of a show that comes remotely close, but cannot & that ... that is one more reason for Poppy to love The Cure.

I also got to see BRMC, Kings of Leon & AFI last night. Kings of Leon were the most fun opener for me, Rue dug AFI a lot. I can't really say much about the other acts (except that AFI did a surprisingly awesome cover of Ziggy Stardust & it pleased me very much) because The damned Cure blew the lid off of the sky for me last night.

GAH!

So fucking good.

I had a great weekend full of music & friends & got to spend some time with my Rue who is 5 months pregnant with her first child (a girl, Emily Delene).

Now it's back to work in the morning, but I think the afterglow will be sticking with me through the week ... making sure I have enough smiles to go around when the stress bugs come a knocking.

I seriously just want to cue up all the Cure songs on my Itunes & dance around the house like I'm 14 again. Lovely, damn lovely.

:blowing my speakers: The Cure ~ Push
:feeding my head: Miyuki Miyabe ~ Brave Story
:rotting my brain: Heroes season 1
